The history of the Bernhard family is full of twists and turns. In 1981 Cécile BERNHARD revived the family heritage of being winegrowers, which ceased at the end of World War II when the last surviving winemaker in her family was lost.  Cultivating the vines of her husband's family in the village of Châtenois at the heart of the thousand year old Alsace wine trail.  In1996, Cécile Bernhard-Riebel became the first woman to become Le Grand Maîtres de la Confrérie St-Etienne, one of the oldest wine guilds in France.
